Miami football could have big August of commitments
The Miami football program could have three of its most sought-after prospects in the 2024 class committing in August. Defensive linemen Kamarion Franklin and David Stone will definitely announce their commitments later this month. Safety Zaquan Patterson is getting closer to a commitment per Inside The U.
Franklin is announcing his commitment on Aug 19 at 8:00 PM. Stone is making his commitment announcement on Aug 26 at 1:00 PM. Patterson told Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U that he does not have a set commitment date but that it should be near August 22. Miami is currently 15th in the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Franklin is currently the 46th prospect, eighth defensive lineman and eighth recruit in Mississippi in the 2024 class. Auburn currently holds the sole 247 Sports crystal ball and has an 89.3 percent chance for a commitment from Franklin according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Stone is the 10th prospect, third defensive lineman and the third player in Florida out of IMG Academy in Bradenton in the 2024 Class. There are four crystal balls logged for Stone to Oklahoma from February through July 2022 and two projected him to Michigan State on December 23, 2022.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Oklahoma with a 79.1 percent chance for a commitment from Stone. Michigan State is listed with a 15.4 percent chance for a Stone commitment. All of the other schools listed as trending for Stone are projected with a less than two percent chance for a commitment.
Patterson is the 77th prospect, third safety and 10th player in Florida in the 2024 class. No crystal balls have been logged for Patterson. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Miami with a 91.3 percent chance of a commitment from Patterson. Michigan is second at three percent and Auburn is at two percent.
Steve Wiltfong, the Director Of Recruiting for 247 Sports stated “Miami is a program that’s always been a mainstay with Zaquan Patterson. They’ve had him on campus a bunch. He wants to see how they look this season as a program.” Those comments run counter to Patterson making a commitment this month.

The Miami football program has the potential for a big month if they can pull a surprise with Franklin and/or Stone. One surprise worked in favor of Miami earlier this year with a commitment from four-star edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot. It worked against Miami when four-star athlete Jacory Barney Jr. committed to Nebraska.
