Miami Hurricanes News: Frosh expectations, elite 2024 DL class
Defensive lineman Rueben Bain and offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa were named Preseason All-Americans by 247 Sports on Thursday. Rivals named the 2024 defensive line class for the Miami Hurricanes football program as the fifth-best in the country behind Georgia, Clemson, Oregon and Texas.
Chris Hummer summarized the Freshman All-America team for 247 Sports. Hummer mentioned that Mauigoa has quickly earned a starting spot for Miami and his massive, 6’6 and 335-pound frame. Bain was praised by Hummer for his production in high school and reps with the first team defense in training camp.
Commitments from four-star defensive ends Marquise Lightfoot and Elias Rudolph, tackle Artavius Jones and three-star end Daylen Russell has the 2024 defensive line class for the Miami football program ranked fifth nationally by Rivals.com. The 2024 Miami DL class is led by Lightfoot, the 78th-ranked prospect.
David Lake of Inside the U wrote about the “Eight buzz-worthy players through the first two weeks of camp.” Lake singled out QB Emory Williams, RRB Ajay Allen, WR Colbie Young, OL Javion Cohen and Francis Mauigoa, DL Rueben Bain and Leonard Taylor and CB Davonte Brown.
The 247 Sports Football Recruiting Podcast included Mark Fletcher and Mauigoa among the “ACC true freshmen primed to make an impact in 2023.” Andrew Ivins and Cooper Petagna named Bain and WRs Nathaniel Joseph and Robby Washington as honorable mention ACC true freshmen primed to make an impact in 2023.
Matt Connolly of On3 quoted Greg McElroy that if the Miami Hurricanes football program fails to make a 2023 Bowl game it is indicative of a failure of the culture Mario Cristobal is trying to instill in the Hurricanes. McElroy clarified that he doesn’t think Cristobal would be on the hot seat if Miami has nothing losing season.
Alex Donno of All Hurricanes and the Locked on Canes podcast asked “Miami Hurricanes Fall Practice Updates: Who’s Trending Up?” Donno mentioned Young, fellow WRs Tyler Harrell and Xavier Restrepo, QB’s Tyler Van Dyke, Jacurri Brown and Williams and RBs Ajay Allen, Fletcher and Don Chaney Jr.
