ESPN picks Texas AM at Miami football must see September game
ESPN picked the Texas A&M at Miami football game as one of its “Three must-see September games” as part of its “2023 college football outlook: ACC at a glance.” Texas A&M plays at Miami on September 9 in what is the second game of the 2023 season with a 3:30 PM Eastern Time kickoff.
The Aggies defeated the Hurricanes 17-9 in College Station last season. Texas A&M opens the season ranked 23rd. Miami is 41st in the Associated Press media poll. Miami and Texas A&M are both coming off extremely disappointing 5-7 seasons. The Aggies and Hurricanes have split their four games all-time.
Miami and Texas A&M both had drastic changes during the 2023 offseason. The Hurricanes hired defensive coordinator Lance Guidry and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and brought in 41 new players. Texas A&M hired embattled former Arkansas and Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator.
The winner between Miami and Texas A&M should have a boost to finish September strong. Whichever team loses will be overanalyzed in what it means for the rest of the season. Miami opens the season on September 1 versus Miami (Ohio), hosts Bethune-Cookman on September 14 and plays at Temple on September 23.
"“Texas A&M at Miami, Sept. 9: Both programs had tougher years than expected last season, but they have much higher hopes for 2023. For Miami, this is a crucial nonconference game to truly show it is headed in the right direction. For the ACC, this is a crucial nonconference game to help improve the perception of the conference. — Adelson”"
Andrea Adelson summarized the Texas A&M at Miami football game for ESPN. Miami was picked fifth in the preseason ACC poll by the media. Texas A&M is picked third in the SEC West with one first-place vote by Alabama who was predicted to finish first in the division with LSU second.
Texas A&M had its own roster turnover during the offseason with 15 transfers and 18 players signed in the 2023 class new to its roster. The Aggies return 16 starters with eight each on defense and offense. Expect Texas A&M to continue to be stingy defensively. The Aggies were 25th allowing 21.2 points per game in 2022.
