Miami Football 2024 top 15 with 4-star S Zaquan Patterson commitment

The Miami football program picked up its second-biggest 2024 commitment from four-star safety Zaquan Patterson on Saturday. Patterson chose Miami over primarily Florida State. Several recruiting analysts projected Florida State as the favorite for a commitment from Patterson entering his Saturday announcement.

Patterson is the 78th prospect, fourth safety and 11th-ranked player in the 2024 class per the 247 Sports composite rankings. The commitment from Patterson moves the 2024 Miami recruiting class to 14th nationally and third in the ACC. Florida State has the fifth-best 2024 class nationally and Clemson is 13th.

Patterson is the second-highest-rated 2024 Miami commit and the top defensive player in the class. Joshisa Trader who is a teammate of Patterson’s at Chaminade-Madonna is the top 2024 Miami commit and is rated as a five-star prospect. Patterson is the fourth safety committed to Miami in the 2024 class.

At 6’0 and 185 pounds, Patterson will provide Miami with a physical safety that should have an opportunity to play as a freshman. In the last two seasons, Patterson has recorded 138 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, three interceptions and three pass breakups according to Max Preps.

Defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae was the primary recruiter and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry was the secondary recruiter for Patterson. The commitment from Patterson moves Addae to the ninth-best recruiter in the ACC in the 2024 class. Patterson is the ninth 2024 Miami Blue-Chip commit.

Miami has five blue chip commits on defense and four on offense. Patterson is the first blue-chip defensive back in the 2024 Miami class. According to On3, Miami has defensive backs in the 2024 class with the commitment from Patterson. Miami is building an elite 2024 defensive class.

Addae has made a big impact recruiting in his second cycle with the Miami football program. Addae and defensive line coach Joe Salave’a are the only returning coaches on defense from the 2022 Miami coaching staff. Expect several of the 2024 freshmen to contribute immediately and have an impact.
