CFB National Analyst: Miami football stock up
Brad Crawford of 247 Sports examined “College football stocks: Teams to buy, sell heading into Week 1 of 2023 season.” Crawford named the Miami football team as one to buy ahead of its season opener versus Miami (Ohio) on Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium. Mario Cristobal rebuilt Miami entering his second season.
Seven coaches and 41 players are new to the Miami football program entering the 2023 season. Shannon Dawson is the third offensive coordinator quarterback Tyler Van Dyke will play for in his three seasons as the Miami starter. Lance Guidry is entering his first season as the Miami defensive coordinator.
Miami also has new running backs coach Tim Harris Jr., Kevin Beard as wide receivers coach, Jason Taylor on the defensive line and Derek Nicholson leading the linebackers. Miami signed 26 players in their 2023 class and added 15 transfers entering the 2023 season. The Hurricanes will have a different look on Friday night.
After opening the season on Friday night versus Miami (Ohio), Miami hosts Texas A&M on September 9. A win by the Hurricanes over the Aggies would position Miami to receive a top-25 ranking by week two. Texas A&M is about a 7.5-point favorite entering the game versus Miami.

"MIAMI HURRICANES (BUY)“Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is anxious for his shot at redemption after a subpar performance last fall. He was not the only one at fault during a tumultuous 5-7 campaign for first-year coach Mario Cristobal, either. The Hurricanes upgraded their roster in the transfer portal and have put Van Dyke back in a scheme that caters to his strengths. And with improved offensive line play, Miami should be a force in the ACC.There’s always a few teams who are unranked in the preseason who crack the top 20 and Miami could be one of those squads. Buy now."
Miami has a favorable schedule to get off to a good start. After hosting Texas A&M, Miami will play Bethune-Cookman, at Temple, have their bye and then host Georgia Tech. The last seven weeks of the season are far more difficult. Miami begins that stretch by playing at North Carolina on October 14.
Getting off to a good start and setting the foundation for the rest of the season is critical for Miami. Games versus Clemson on October 21 and at Florida State on November 11 will be huge tests for Miami. Potential toss-up games at North Carolina State on November 4 and versus Louisville on November 18 will be pivotal.
