Miami football reenergized in 38-3 win over Miami (Ohio)

The Miami football team looked re-energized in a 31-3 win over Miami (Ohio) in the 2023 season opener. Miami was dominant defensively and good enough offensively to control the game from the opening drive. Tyler Van Dyke led Miami three plays 56 yards in 1:34 on the opening drive to take a 7-0 lead.

Van Dyke connected with Colbie Young on a 44-yard TD pass to take the early lead. The story of the night for Miami offensively was its ability to run. Miami had 36 carries for 250 yards and three rushing TDs. Henry Parrish led Miami with nine carries for 90 yards and one TD. Freshman Mark Fletcher had 9-76 and one TD.

Van Dyke finished his night early in the fourth quarter. Leading an extremely efficient Miami offense, Van Dyke was 17-22 for 201 yards with one TD and one interception. Emory Williams came in for Van Dyke on the last drive for Miami and was 3-3 for 42 yards. Miami spread out their carries and completions.

Ajay Allen supplemented Fletcher and Parrish with nine carries for 47 yards. Don Chaney Jr. had six carries for 30 yards and a TD. Jacolby George led Miami with six receptions for 56 yards. Colbie Young topped the Hurricanes with 79 receiving yards on four receptions and the one TD. Xavier Restrepo had five receptions for 68 yards.

Miami held Miami (Ohio) to 215 yards. The Hurricanes rushing defense was stifling. Miami (Ohio) ran for 51 yards on 25 carries. The Hurricanes held Redhawks starting QB Brett Gabbert who claimed the real Miami is in Oxford, Ohio to 12-21 for 127 yards. The first-team Miami defense was mostly dominant.

Miami (Ohio) gained 95 yards on its last two drives. Most of the first-team Miami defense was out of the game after building the big lead.
