Miami Hurricanes News: Texas AM preparation, Hoops commit
This is the biggest week in the first month of the season for the Miami Hurricanes ahead of hosting Texas A&M on Saturday. All the websites that cover Miami have coverage prior to playing Texas A&M Four-star point guard Austin Swartz committed to the Miami basketball program on Tuesday.
The Miami Hurricanes are expected to rely heavily on true freshmen in 2023. David Lake of Inside the U wrote that “Miami played the most true freshman snaps in the ACC in week one.” Running back Mark Fletcher and offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa have both been named as Miami freshmen who impressed in week one.
Justin Rudolph of On3 summarized Mario Cristobal saying that Miami made progress in the opener and discussing the “challenges in facing a Bobby Petrino offense” versus Texas A&M on Wednesday. Jimbo Fisher hired Petrino as offensive coordinator during the offseason from Missouri State where he was head coach.
Canes County Recruiting Analyst Frank Tucker wrote about “Five Players Who Need to Step Up Against Texas A&M.” Tucker listed Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, Wide Receiver Brashard Smith, Offensive Guard Anez Cooper, Defensive End Nyjalik Kelly and Defensive Tackle Leonard Taylor.

Cameron Salerno of CBS Sports named Miami cornerback Davonte Brown “among transfer portal sleepers to watch in 2023 season.” Brown recorded two tackles in his Miami debut on Friday night after transferring from Central Florida during the offseason. Brown should be one of the leaders on the Miami defense.
