"You can see him against UNM make several of those types of throws—they sold out to try and harass him in the pocket but it never paid off. Johnson, on the other hand, stands too long in the pocket and really gets flustered under pressure. He’s a great guy to have as a backup and is really capable, but Conner is on another level when he’s operating well. The next step for him from last season to this one—and something we may find out this weekend—is whether he can rally the team in a disadvantaged situation."

3) How has the 6-game road losing streak impacted the program

"I don’t think the road losing streak is as much of a talking point in the program and among the fanbase as the general malaise of last year. People are eager to wash the stink of a 5-7 season off and move on to what we believe this team can be with a functional (or even elite) offense."

4) What are the biggest deficiencies on offense and defense

"The areas of biggest concern are the OL in pass protection and the run defense. There’s reason for optimism—which is why I don’t say deficiencies, as it’s too early to tell this season—but they are definitely places the team struggled last season."
