The Miami football team faces a bigger challenge versus Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman than in 2022 against Aggies’ signal caller Max Johnson. Weigman did not make his Texas A&M debut until week seven versus South Carolina in 2022. Johnson started four games for Texas A&M in 2022, including the win over Miami.

Weigman played in five games with four starts as a true freshman in 2022. Johnson was 10- 20 for 140 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions as Texas A&M defeated Miami 17-9 in 2022. Weigman has completed 58.7 percent of his pass attempts for 1,132 yards, 13 TDs and no interceptions in his career.

Weigman is playing in only his road third game overall with his second start during his collegiate career. Weigman was 8-15 for 91 yards versus South Carolina last season. In his only collegiate road start at Mississippi in 2022, Weigman was 14-36 for 121 yards with one TD and no interceptions.

Weigman has an elite group of wide receivers to work with this season. Evan Stewart who is a projected future first-round NFL Draft pick had eight receptions for 115 yards and two TDs in the 52-10 Texas A&M season-opening win versus New Mexico. Noah Thomas had six receptions for 72 yards and three TDs versus New Mexico.

Thomas is a difficult matchup for opposing defensive backs at 6’6. Expect to see safety help from Kamren Kinchens and 6’5 James Williams with all the Texas A&M WRs and more specifically, Thomas. Weigman was 18-23 for 236 yards and five TDs in the season-opening win over New Mexico.

At 6’3 and 215 pounds, Weigman has slightly less size than the 6’6 and 230 pound Johnson. Weigman is more athletic and far more highly rated as a prospect. Weigman was a five-star signee with Texas A&M in 2021 and received a 0.9899 grade from 247 Sports. Johnson was a four-star signee in 2020 with a 0.9090 grade.

Weigman leads the nation with a 97.2 ESPN Total QBR. Weigman is the first of multiple elite QBs the Miami football team will play this season. Drake Maye of North Carolina and Cade Klubnik of Clemson were five-star prospects when they signed out of high school. Jordan Travis could be a Heisman Trophy candidate this season.
