Tyler Van Dyke has career best 5 TDs leading Miami over Texas AM
Tyler Van Dyke completed 21 passes in 30 attempts for 374 yards and threw for a career-high five touchdowns passes as the Miami football team defeated Texas A&M 48-33 on Saturday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium. Tyler Van Dyke previously had four TD passes versus Florida State and North Carolina State in 2021.
Van Dyke completed passes to six different receivers. Xavier Restrepo led Miami with 126 receiving yards and shared the team lead with six receptions. Colbie Young had six receptions for 75 yards and Jacolby George had five receptions for 94 yards and three TDs. George entered the game with one career TD reception.
George is only the fifth Miami receiver with three TD receptions in the same game. Lamar Thomas in 1990 versus Texas Tech, Leonard Hankerson in 2010 versus Clemson, Tony Gaiter in 1996 against Pittsburgh and Santana Moss in 1998 versus Rutgers are the other three. Hankerson owns the Miami season TD reception record.
Van Dyke is the eighth Miami QB with at least five TD passes in one game. Jarren Williams holds the record with six versus Louisville in 2019. Bernie Kosar, Steve Walsh, Ken Dorsey, Brock Berlin, Kyle Wright, Stephen Morris and D’Eriq King. Van Dyke is now 10th in Miami history with 41 career TD passes.
The five TD passes by Van Dyke are also the most by a Miami QB versus a ranked opponent. Van Dyke threw for the fifth most yards in his career. The only games Van Dyke threw for more yards were 496 yards versus North Carolina in 496 yards in 2022, 426 versus Pittsburgh, 389 versus Georgia Tech and 381 against Duke in 2021.
Van Dyke now has 5,341 career passing yards with his performance on Saturday and moved into 10th place in Miami history with 41 TD passes passing Kosar. Kosar was in attendance on Saturday as the 1983 National Championship team was honored. Van Dyke will continue to move up in the Miami record book this season.
