Miami football reaches multiple milestones beating Texas A&M
The Miami football team reached multiple milestones and individual records in its 48-33 win over Texas A&M on Saturday. Miami ended several losing streaks on Saturday with the win over Texas A&M. Several Miami players set individual and team records leading the Hurricanes to the victory over Texas A&M.
Miami ended a seven-game losing streak versus Power Five non-conference opponents with the win over Texas A&M. The Hurricanes last defeated a Power Five non-conference opponent with a 41-8 victory over Notre Dame in 2017. Miami ended a five-game losing streak versus SEC opponents with the win over Texas A&M.
Miami last defeated an SEC team with a 21-16 victory over Florida in 2013. The 48 points Miami scored on Saturday were the most by the Hurricanes versus a ranked opponent since a 56-45 win over number 18 Virginia Tech in 2002. Miami clinched a Rose Bowl berth behind six touchdowns from Willie McGahee versus Virginia Tech.
Tyler Van Dyke set his personal career high with five touchdown passes on Saturday. Van Dyke became the eighth Miami QB to throw five TDS in a single game. Jarren Williams set the Miami single game record with six TDS passes versus Louisville in 2019. Van Dyke threw four TD passes in a game twice in 2021.
Jacolby George had five receptions for 94 yards and his three TDs tied the Miami single game record. Lamar Thomas in 1990 versus Texas Tech, Tony Gaiter in 1996 against Pittsburgh, Leonard Hankerson in 2010 versus Clemson, and Santana Moss in 1998 versus Rutgers previously had three TD receptions in a game for Miami.
Xavier Restrepo also had his best career game for the Miami football team with six receptions for 126 yards. Miami was efficient and explosive offensively in the win over Texas A&M. The Hurricanes had nine pass plays of 15 or more yards and four runs of 10 or more. Miami had seven completions of 20 yards or more.
Four Van Dyke completions went for 30 or more and he had three of 40 plus with two of those going for TDs. Through two games expect Van Dyke, George, Restrepo and Colbie Young to continue to have milestone days in the Shannon Dawson offense. Isaiah Horton also had a 52 yard TD reception on Saturday.
