Tyler Van Dyke enters Heisman Trophy race with big performance
After completing 21 passes in 30 attempts for 374 yards and five touchdowns in leading Miami to a 48-33 win over Texas A&M, Tyler Van Dyke re-appeared on the Heisman Trophy Odds Board. Caesers’ Sportsbook lists Van Dyke at +2200 to win the Heisman Trophy. Van Dyke is having a resurgence under Shannon Dawson.
After being hired during the offseason as the new Miami offensive coordinator, Dawson has installed a modified version of the Air Raid. Miami took more shots downfield on Saturday. The spread is a better fit for Van Dyke than the West Coast offense that Miami ran during the 2022 season.
Van Dyke ranks fifth nationally averaging 11.1 yards per attempt, sixth with a 200.20 passer rating, 18th in completion percentage and averaging 287.5 passing yards per game. The performance on the big stage versus Texas A&M was important for Van Dyke and the Miami football team.
Miami and Van Dyke should have a foundation of confidence for the remainder of the season after defeating Texas A&M. Miami will be favored in each of its next three games. Miami hosts Bethune-Cookman on Thursday, plays at Temple and following a bye hosts Georgia Tech. Carter Bahns of 247 Sports summarized Van Dyke.

Van Dyke was one of four Miami players who earned ACC Player of the Week at their positions following their performances on Saturday. Anez Cooper was ACC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week, Jaden Davis, ACC Defensive Back of the Week and Jacolby George ACC Receiver of the Week.
Van Dyke teamed with George on three of his TD passes. Isaiah Horton and Colbie Young are the other two Miami receivers who had TD receptions. George, Xavier Restrepo and Young have asserted themselves as Van Dyke’s primary receivers. Restrepo is 22nd nationally averaging 97.0 receiving yards per game.
Miami has multiple games this season against elite QBs. Van Dyke will have the chance for Heisman Trophy voters to watch Drake Maye of North Carolina, Cade Klubnik of Clemson and Jordan Travis of Florida State play in the same game. Big performances by Van Dyke in those games will significantly help his candidacy.
