In a post on Wednesday morning, 247 Sports listed the “ACC football programs ranked by recruiting potential as Stanford, Cal, SMU join.” The Miami football program received an average ranking of 1.86 in the 247 Sports ACC rankings to finish second. Florida State was first with an average score of 1.29 in the new ACC rankings.
The rankings are based on potential, not the most current rankings in the 2024 class. Florida State has the top 2024 ACC recruiting class, Clemson is second and Miami is third. Miami hired Mario Cristobal as head coach in large part because of his elite ability as a recruiter. Miami has signed two top-15 recruiting classes under Cristobal.
The 2023 Miami signing class ranked seventh nationally and first in the ACC. With less than a month at Miami, Cristobal was able to sign the 16th-best class nationally and third in the ACC behind Clemson and North Carolina in 2022. If Miami has a successful 2023 season, the Hurricanes should rise in the recruiting rankings.
Miami has remained a national brand despite constant mediocrity for the majority of the last 20 years. Cristobal is building Miami toward success. The win over Texas A&M on Saturday is a huge foundation for the 2023 season, 2024 recruiting class and the future. Cooper Patagna of 247 Sports summarized Miami’s recruiting potential.
"“From a national brand and tradition standpoint, in addition to a well-placed geographical advantage, I think Miami’s in a unique position to leverage its status on the recruiting trail in the new age of college football.Between high school recruiting and the transfer portal, the ‘Canes can quickly become one of the games most attractive destination programs in short order if they play their cards right going forward. So much of what makes Miami Miami is personnel and now with Mario Cristobal at the helm, expect that return to the ‘Canes standard sooner than later.”"
Miami has remained a top 20 program in recruiting for most of the last 20 years. Lack of development has been the bigger issue. South Florida has one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the county. Cristobal has proven his ability to recruit and attract transfers to the Miami football program.
Miami signed the seventh-best 2023 transfer class. In the 247 Sports 2023 College Football Team Talent Composite rankings, Miami ranks 12th. Miami has consistently ranked in the top 15 of the talent composite rankings. The team talent composite rankings do not include transfers.
Freshmen and transfers have both made impacts for Miami in the first two games this season. Transfers, center Matt Lee and guard Javian Cohen are starting on the offensive line. Freshman Rueben Bain played starter’s snaps at edge rusher versus Texas A&M. Expect Miami to continue bringing in new, impactful players.
