Tyler Van Dyke is 11th overall and tops in the ACC by the Bleacher Report in their Ranking Top 25 Quarterbacks in College Football After Week 3.” The performance by Van Dyke through the first quarter of the 2023 regular season has pushed him back into the Heisman Trophy race.

Tyler Van Dyke wasn’t even considered in the top three ACC QBs entering the 2023 season. Returning ACC Player of the Year Drake Maye from North Carolina earned the same accolade in the preseason picks from conference media. Maye received 88 votes for ACC Preseason Player of the Year.

Florida State QB Jordan Travis was second in the ACC POY voting with 66 votes. Duke QB Riley Leonard received one vote, tying for fifth as the other QB to receive votes as ACC POY. Van Dyke became an afterthought after a down 2022 season, partially due to injuries. Van Dyke is back to his 2021 form in 2023.

Under new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, Van Dyke is far more comfortable than he was in the offense in 2022. Van Dyke leads the ACC in completion percentage, passer rating and passing yards per attempt this season. Joel Reuter summarized Van Dyke’s season for the Bleacher Report.

"11. Tyler Van Dyke, Miami (Previous Rank: 12)Week 3: 19-of-23, 247 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT; 16 rush yards, 1 TDSeason: 57-of-75, 822 yards, 8 TD, 1 INT; 4 rush yards, 1 TDVan Dyke vaulted into the rankings last week with a 374-yard, five-touchdown performance against Texas A&M, and he followed that up with an efficient game against FCS opponent Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. A road matchup against Temple should provide another solid opportunity for efficient production."

Michael Penix Jr. of Washington is ranked the top QB in the country by Bleacher Report. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams of USC is second and former Wake Forest and current Notre Dame QB Sam Hartman is third in the rankings. Four other ACC QBs are in the Bleacher Report top 25 rankings.

Jordan Travis of Florida State is ranked 12th, Garrett Schrader of Syracuse 13th, Haynes King of Georgia Tech 15th and Cade Klubnik of Clemson 25th. Conner Weigman of Texas A&M who is 16th in the rankings is another QB of note. Van Dyke will be challenged versus Temple who is 23rd allowing 171.0 passing yards per game.

Next. Miami WR groups among top nationally. dark

Clemson who is 10th nationally allowing 148.7 passing yards per game and Boston College who is 24th permitting 171.3 are the only other pass defenses in the top 25 Miami is scheduled to play this season. Van Dyke should continue to thrive in the new high-powered Miami offense in 2023.
