5-Star WR Jeremiah Smith visiting Miami football for Georgia Tech game
Steve Wiltfong the Director Of Recruiting for 247 Sports reported on Friday morning that five-star 2024 wide receiver Jeremiah Smith will visit the Miami football program for the Georgia Tech game on October 14. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna star Smith is currently committed to Ohio State.
Smith took his official visit with the Miami football program the weekend of June 23. Florida and Ohio State had official visits from Smith in June and Georgia hosted him in May. Smith has taken unofficial visits to 11 other schools besides the programs that received official visits from him this spring and summer.
The 247 Sports Composite rankings list Smith as the top player in the Class of 2024. Miami has a commitment from five-star WR and Smith’s Chaminade-Madonna teammate Joshisa “JoJo” Trader. Signing Smith and Trader would provide Miami with two game-changing WRs who should become impact freshmen.
Smith likes the way the Miami offense has performed through the first three games under new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson. Wiltfong spoke to Smith about the Miami offense, WR coach Kevin Beard and the recruiting process with Miami. The offense continuing to roll should pay dividends in recruiting.
"“I love the way Miami’s offense looking…I love the way Coach (Shannon) Dawson kept his word Miami definitely be on another level with that offense. He definitely kept his word. Him, Coach KB (Kevin Beard) and Coach Cristobal…They consistent each and every day.I get a text from either Coach Cristobal, Coach KB, the whole coaching staff text me each and every day.”"
Smith has 117 receptions for 2,145 yards and 33 touchdowns in 24 games per Max Preps. This season Smith has 33 receptions for 516 yards and seven TDs in four games. At 6’3 and 198 pounds, Trader has exceptional size at WR. Smith also told Wiltfong “Miami, Florida State, Florida, they’re building momentum.”
Ohio State is the prohibitive favorite to sign Smith at 95.7 percent per On3 with his commitment already received. Miami is second with a 1.2 percent chance for a commitment from Smith. With about four months until Early National Signing Day remaining, a lot can change in the recruiting cycle.
If Miami continues to thrive offensively, Smith might reconsider his commitment to Ohio State. Smith told Wiltfong that his decision “It’s definitely going to go down to the deadline.” Florida State WRs coach Ron Dugans who was formerly at Miami told Smith he can be a day one starter. That seems even more true for Smith at Miami.
