Miami Hurricanes News: Temple prep, competition making football better
The Miami Hurricanes football team continued its preparation for Temple on Saturday. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote “Several veteran Hurricanes not shrinking against portal competition. And Mario musings.” Frank Tucker of Canes County wrote “Top Week Four Performances from Miami Commits and Targets.”
The Miami Hurricanes football team travels to Philadelphia with a 3-0 record to face 2-1 Temple on Saturday. Miami defeated Bethune-Cookman 48-7 and Temple won 41-9 over Norfolk State last week. Miami beat Miami (Ohio) and Texas A&M in its other two games. Temple defeated Akron and lost to Rutgers.
Jackson summarized the competition for playing time on the Miami football team and transcribed from Mario Cristobal and several players this week. Several Miami players who lost starting positions have made contributions remaining in the rotation through the first three games of the 2023 season.
Tucker highlighted nearly 20 players that included Miami commits and targets. The Miami commits Tucked profiled are quarterbacks Judd Anderson and Luke Nickel, tight end Elija Lofton and safety Zaquan Patterson. Brian Smith of All Hurricanes highlighted several Miami prospects who played on ESPN 2 on Thursday night.
Xavier Restrepo is 23rd in the On3 “Top 25 wide receiver rankings entering Week 4 of college football.” Keon Coleman who is fifth and Johnny Wilson of Florida State who is 16th on the list and Jamari Thrash of Louisville who is 18th are the only WRs in the ACC listed ahead of Restrepo by On3.
David Lake of Inside the U wrote about “The top five impact transfers through the first three games” for the Miami Hurricanes. Lake lists, tight end Cam McCormick, linebacker Kiko Mauigoa, cornerback Jaden Davis, and offensive linemen Matt Lee and Javion Cohen as his five biggest Miami impact transfers.
Grayson Weir of the Bro Bible wrote about McCormick stating “Miami Tight End Who Began Career During Obama Administration Exemplifies Need To End Eligibility Limits.” McCormick petitioned the NCAA for the option of being able to play in his ninth season in 2024 due to past medical redshirts.
