Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was named by Max Chadwick of Pro Football Focus as one of his 2024 NFL Draft: 5 prospects to watch the rest of the college football season.” Van Dyke is the highest-graded QB by PFF through the first four weeks of the 2023 season. One other QB and three other positions are in the top five.

Washington QB Michael Penix and linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio, Notre Dame running back Audric Estime and interior defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat of Texas are the other prospects to watch according to Chadwick. Chadwick provided short summaries for each of the five prospects he listed.

Penix leads the nation with 409.0 passing yards per game, 16 touchdown passes and 11.1 yards per attempt. The four defenses Penix and the high-scoring Washington offense have played against this season are outside the top 40 graded units nationally. They will be tested later this season against a tough Pac-12 schedule.

Tyler Van Dyke is in the top 10 nationally in passer rating, yards per attempt and completion percentage. Texas A&M who is 30th nationally in scoring defense is the stingiest unit the Miami football team has played in 2023. The remaining teams on the 2023 Miami schedule allow more points per game than Texas A&M.

"QB TYLER VAN DYKE, MIAMI (FL) HURRICANESLast summer, Van Dyke was a projected first-round pick for many draft analysts. Following a disastrous 2022 for both Van Dyke (66.8 grade) and the Hurricanes (5-7 record), that hype died down and he returned to school. The redshirt junior is once again flashing the tools that made him such an intriguing prospect in the first place. His 94.2 grade leads all quarterbacks in the country, even the aforementioned Penix. Van Dyke is tied for second in the nation with 13 big-time throws and has only produced two turnover-worthy plays so far. While a Day 1 result is unlikely at this stage, Van Dyke is playing well enough to garner some Day 2 buzz.”"

The Miami offense has become one of the most explosive in the country under new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson led by Tyler Van Dyke. Van Dyke is tied for eighth nationally with 20 completions of 20 yards or more. In all of 2022, Van Dyke had 21 completions of 20 yards or more.

Miami should continue to thrive in the deep passing game. Clemson should be the best secondary Miami plays the rest of the season. The Tigers have allowed only nine completions of 20 yards or more this season. Van Dyke has been incredibly efficient while completing deep passes and throwing only one interception.

Van Dyke has silenced his skeptics through the first four games of 2023. Impressing NFL scouts will be the next step to continue to rise up draft boards entering as Chadwick mentioned. Van Dyke has grown as a QB and showed the ability to run when he has to. Expect more development from Van Dyke in the Dawson offense.
