The Miami football program is battling with Georgia and Oregon for five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland. It was revealed on Friday that Breland will announce his collegiate commitment on October 14. Georgia is currently listed as the favorite with a 26.7 percent chance for a Breland commitment per On3.

Oregon is listed as the second favorite for a Breland commitment at 20.1 percent and the Miami football program is third at 14.4 percent. Breland tweeted his three finalists as Georgia, Miami and Oregon on September 13. There are no 247 Sports crystal balls that have been logged for Breland.

Breland told On3 that Miami head coach Mario Cristobal gave him his first scholarship offer and “being developed by Jason Taylor and Joe Salave’a doesn’t sound bad.” Breland is the 36th prospect, fifth DL and third-best player in California out of national powerhouse Santa Ana Mater Dei.

Breland is rated much higher by 247 Sports as the sixth-ranked overall prospect, second-best DL and top player in California in the 2024 class. Led by Taylor, Miami is building an elite 2024 DL class. Miami has commitments from blue-chip DL Artavius Jones, Marquise Lightfoot and Elias Rudolph.

Breland took official visits to Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Texas A&M in June. Alabama, Colorado, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee and USC recevied unofficial visits from Breland. Breland would be the second highest ranked commit in the 2024 Miami class behind five-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader.

A defensive line class of Breland, Lightfoot, Rudolph and three-star commit Daylen Russell would set a foundation for the future that Cristobal has been stressing since he was hired in December 2021. The 2024 Miami class is currently 18th in the On3 rankings and 17th by 247 Sports.

The 247 Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong said about Breland I give Georgia the edge right now, but you got Miami in there strong, and you got Oregon in there strong.” A commitment from Breland would be a significant addition to the 2024 Miami recruiting class and for Cristobal and his staff.
