Miami football moves up to 17th in both week 6 national polls
The Miami football team moved up to 17th nationally in the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Polls released on Sunday. Miami is nationally ranked for the fourth straight week. The Hurricanes debuted in the 2023 polls following their week two 48-33 win over Texas A&M.
Miami earned 589 points in the Associated Press top 25 to move up one spot following their bye week. Losses by Duke and Utah allowed the Miami football team to move up to 17th. Duke dropped two places in the AP Top 25 following a 21-14 loss to Notre Dame. Utah dropped eight spots after a 21-7 defeat at Oregon State.
Mississippi and Oregon State passed Miami following big wins. Mississippi moved up four spots in the AP Top 25 to 16th nationally following a 55-49 win over LSU. Oregon State also moved up four areas to 15th nationally after its win over Utah. Oregon State has 633 points in the polls and Mississippi 616.
Miami has 566 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Mississippi and Oregon State also moved up four spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Mississippi is 15th in the USA Today Poll with 617 points. Oregon State is ranked 16th in the USA Today Poll with 606 points. Duke and Utah dropped in the USA Today Poll.
Duke dropped five spots in the USA Today Poll allowing Miami to move up to 17th. Utah dropped nine places to 19th nationally in the USA Today Coaches Poll. With Duke falling behind Miami, the Hurricanes are now the third highest-ranked team in the ACC in both polls behind Florida State and North Carolina.
Florida State is fifth nationally in both polls. The Seminoles fell one spot in the USA Today Coaches poll after being passed by Texas. North Carolina is ranked 14th in the AP Top 25 and 13th in the USA Today Coaches poll. Louisville made its season debut ranked 25th in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll.
Clemson who received five points is the only other ACC team in the AP Top 25, ranked 33rd. Clemson received 18 points in the USA Today poll to rank 31st. Miami hosts Clemson on October 21. Texas A&M is the only other 2023 Miami opponent to receive votes in the national polls for week six.
