The Miami Hurricanes Twitter account honored the incredible run of South Florida Sportssuccess in 2023 on Sunday. The Marlins are the latest South Florida team to earn a postseason berth when they clinched a spot with a 7-3 win at Pittsburgh on Saturday. It’s an impressive list that began with a Dolphins playoff berth in March.

The Dolphins finished 9-8 in 2022 and earned the seventh seed in the NFL playoffs. Playing without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa the Dolphins lost 34-31 at Buffalo. The Dolphins returned to Buffalo on Sunday and lost 48-20. Last week, the Dolphins beat the Broncos 70-20 in the second most points scored in an NFL regular season game.

The second shout-out by the Miami Hurricanes Twitter account was the run by the Miami women’s basketball team to the Elite Eight. That was the deepest run in the history of the Miami women’s basketball program. Miami defeated number-one seed Indiana in the second round. LSU eliminated Miami in the Elite Eight.

The Miami men’s basketball team earned their first trip to the Final Four. Miami became the center of the college basketball universe in March. The first Final Four run in the history of the Miami basketball program came a year after the first Elite Eight in program history. National Champion UConn beat Miami in the National Semifinal.

The Panthers pulled off arguably the biggest upset in Stanley Cup Playoff history in the first round over the Boston Bruins in game seven. Boston set the all-time record for most points in the regular season. The Panthers upset Toronto in the second round and Carolina in the Eastern Conference finals before losing.

Miami remained the center of the basketball universe during the NBA Playoffs. After earning the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Heat upset the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks, fifth-seeded New York Knicks and second-seeded Boston Celtics to earn their second NBA finals appearance in four seasons.

The Heat and Panthers both lost five games finals series. Las Vegas defeated Florida to win its first Stanley Cup in its sixth season. The Heat lost to the Denver Nuggets who won its first NBA Championship. Both teams making runs to the finals in their sports as eighth seeds were incredible, especially from the same metropolitan area.

Lionel Messi signing with Inter Miami this summer continued the excitement for South Florida sports. Messi scored nine goals in his first six games with Miami. Inter Miami won the Leagues Cup Competion that includes Major League Soccer and Liga MX (Mexican League) That gave Miami its first ever trophy.

The Miami Hurricanes football team have continued the amazing run of South Florida sports teams by beginning the 2023 season 4-0. Changes that Mario Cristobal made with the coaching staff and roster have worked during non-conference play. Miami begins ACC play on Saturday versus Georgia Tech.

After starting the season 51-37 the Marlins stumbled beginning the week before the All-Star break. The Marlins fell to 66-67 on August 30. Miami finished 18-9 to earn its first playoff spot in a full season since 2003. The Marlins advanced to the National League Division Series following the 2020 60 game regular season.

As October begins an exciting fall awaits. The Miami Hurricanes should compete for a spot in the ACC Championship Game. The Dolphins are 3-1 and have the best offense in the NFL and the Marlins begin postseason play in a best-of-three series at Philadelphia on Tuesday. Let the fun continue.
