Brad Crawford of 247 Sports named the Miami football team second among the 10 college football teams not getting enough respect.”  After finishing 5-7 in 2022, Miami will have to continue proving itself on the field. That starts with Georgia Tech on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

Oklahoma who has started the season 5-0 and is ranked 12th nationally is the only team that Crawford ranked as getting less respect than the Miami football team. The Sooners have their first major test this season when they play Texas in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

The 48-33 Miami win over Texas A&M looks more impressive three weeks later with the Aggies starting the season 4-1. Texas A&M ranks 33rd nationally allowing 18.6 points per game. The Aggies are ranked 28th in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls this week.

The win over Texas A&M is the only one that has earned the Miami football team national recognition. Games at North Carolina and Florida State and at home versus Clemson and Louisville should create national interest and earn Miami respect with wins. Crawford summarized the difference for Miami in 2023.

"2. MIAMI HURRICANES (4-0)AP Poll ranking: No. 17“Miami gets after it. Mario Cristobal’s program simply wasn’t tough enough during 2022’s 5-7 disappointment and went back to the drawing board — and weight room — for extra incentive this time around. It helps when Tyler Van Dyke has returned to difference-making form at quarterback with a new offensive coordinator. Florida State, North Carolina and Duke got a lot of buzz in the ACC early, but Miami deserves mention during a possible league title-winning season, too.”"

Miami needs to focus on Georgia Tech on Saturday. The game at North Carolina on October 14 could be a meeting of two undefeated teams. North Carolina is currently 14th in the Associated Press poll and 13th in the USA Today Coaches poll. The game at North Carolina could be the biggest for Miami since 2020.

The seventh-ranked Hurricanes lost 42-17 at number one Clemson in week four of 2020. This season, Florida State and Louisville will provide Miami with other opportunities to defeat ranked teams. Clemson is currently listed under others receiving votes. A win over Clemson would still make a statement.

Miami will have to earn their national respect. The Hurricanes have often gotten off to good starts over the last 20-plus seasons and have not been able to sustain early success. Miami has a schedule set up to earn respect and continue to move up the rankings. Staying focused each week will be critical.
