The 2024 Miami football recruiting class barely moved into the top 10 with a commitment from four-star edge rusher Booker Pickett Jr. on Thursday. Miami moved ahead of Tennesssee into 10th nationally in the 2024 class with 268.63 points in the 247 Sports composite rankings. Tennessee has 268.62 points.
Pickett is the 212th prospect, 16th edge rusher and 29th player in Florida in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. Miami was part of a top five with Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and South Carolina that Pickett named in August. Pickett is the eighth-highest-rated commit in the 2024 Miami class.
The Miami football program is building an elite group of defensive linemen in the 2024 class. Miami previously has commitments from blue-chip DL Artavius Jones, Marquise Lightfoot and Elias Rudolph for 2024. Jones is projected as a defensive tackle and Lightfoot and Rudolph are edge rushers.
Miami has the second-highest-ranked 2024 class in the ACC behind Florida State. The Seminoles have the sixth-highest-ranked 2024 class nationally. Miami had the top 2023 class in the ACC and was seventh nationally. Mario Cristobal and his staff have prioritized the DL in the 2024 recruiting class.
Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U reported before Pickett committed to Miami on Thursday night that he is visiting the Hurricanes this weekend. Pickett was also in Miami for the Georgia Tech game two weeks ago. This is the fifth visit that Pickett is taking to Miami dating back to last year.
Jason Taylor led the recruitment of Pickett. Taylor was also credited with the commitments from 2025 five-star DL Armando Blount, Lightfoot and Rudolph. Taylor has quickly become one of the best recruiters in the ACC. Before the commitment from Pickett, Taylor was the 26th-ranked ACC recruiter in the 2024 cycle.
Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard is the top recruiter in the 2024 cycle according to the 247 Sports rankings. Defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae entered the day 11th in the ACC recruiter rankings and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal is 22nd. Miami is challenging to sign its second straight top 10 class nationally.
