The Miami football team hosts Virginia on Saturday hoping to build on the momentum after the 28-20 double overtime over Clemson last week. Virginia travels to Hard Rock Stadium with a two-game winning streak after beginning the 2023 season with five consecutive losses. Virginia upset North Carolina 31-27 last week.

The Miami football team sits just outside the top 25 in this week’s rankings. A win over Virginia and losses by teams in front of them could allow the Hurricanes to appear in the first 2023 college football playoff rankings on Tuesday. Miami and Virginia both enter the game on Saturday with 2-2 ACC records.

Miami enters the game 4-3 versus the spread this season. The Hurricanes covered the point spread as a favorite versus Miami (Ohio) and Temple and as an underdog versus Clemson and Texas A&M. Miami did not cover as a favorite versus Georgia Tech and at North Carolina earlier this month.

Virginia is 5-2 versus the point spread this season. The Cavaliers covered as a favorite versus William and Mary and as an underdog versus James Madison, North Carolina State, Boston College and North Carolina. Virginia did not cover the point spread as an underdog versus Tennessee and at Maryland.

Virginia at Miami: Key Players to Watch

The players to watch for Virginia are quarterback Tony Muskett and wide receiver Malik Washington. Virginia has had its two best games of the season offensively with Muskett back healthy in the last two games. Washington leads the ACC in receptions and receiving yards entering week nine.

The players to watch for Miami are QB Tyler Van Dyke who could be a gametime decision after missing the win over Clemson and edge rusher Rueben Bain. Bain was the ACC Defensive Lineman and Rookie of the Week after recording eight tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble versus Clemson.

Prediction

The game should be closer than the point spread. Miami should win comfortably but three TDs is a lot to expect. The over/under will likely depend on the health of Van Dyke. If Van Dyke plays the over should be exceeded. If Emory Williams starts the under is the safer bet with a more conservative Miami offense.
