Miami Hurricanes News: UVA prep, Hoops picked 2nd in ACC

The Miami Hurricanes football team is getting ready to play Virginia on Saturday. Miami was picked second in the preseason basketball poll by ACC media. Forward Norchad Omier was selected first-team preseason All-ACC and guard Nijel Pack second-team by ACC media released Thursday.

On Thursday, Marcus Benjamin of Canes County published articles highlighting Miami coordinators Shannon Dawson and Lance Guidry and how their approaches are working for the Hurricanes this season. Miami has improved significantly on defense and offense in 2023.

Brian Smith of All Hurricanes wrote, “Miami HC Mario Cristobal is Righting the Ship.” Smith examined the process Cristobal has taken to rebuild the talent at Oregon and Miami. The effort the Miami football team is giving, even in the losses to Georgia Tech and North Carolina was highlighted by Smith.

Brandon Marcello of 247 Sports similarly examined Fueled up: Mario Cristobal provides a peek at Miami’s developing resurgence.” Marcello met with Cristobal on the Thursday before the Miami game versus Clemson last week. Cristobal was also quoted as saying the energy in the stadium was what he expected it to be.

Duke received 44 first-place votes and 757 points in the preseason ACC poll. Miami was the only other ACC team with multiple first-place votes. The Miami Hurricanes received five first-place votes and 693 points. Miami being picked to finish second in the ACC was their highest in a preseason ACC poll.

Omier finished fifth in the preseason All-ACC team voting with 42 points. Kyle Filipowski of Duke, Armando Bacot of North Carolina, PJ Hall of Clemson and Reece Beekman of Virginia were the other first-team preseason All-ACC selections. Pack was seventh overall in the voting with 34 points in being named to the second team.
