Liberty Bowl

Miami was the first program to play in the Liberty Bowl in Philadelphia and Memphis. The Liberty Bowl was held in Philadelphia from its inception in 1959 through 1963. Miami lost 15-14 to Syracuse in the 1961 Liberty Bowl. After the 1964 Liberty Bowl was held in Atlantic City it moved to Memphis in 1965.

Miami earned its first bowl win since 1952 with a 14-7 victory over Virginia Tech in the 1966 Liberty Bowl. Miami wide receiver Jimmy Cox was the 1966 Liberty Bowl MVP with five receptions for 77 yards. Following the win over Virginia Tech, Miami finished the 1966 season 8-2-1. That was the last Miami Liberty Bowl appearance.

Independence Bowl

The Independence Bowl began in 1976. Miami made its first appearance in Shreveport with a 24-21 loss to South Carolina and Steve Spurrier in 2014. Miami rallied after trailing 17-6. The Miami football team cut the deficit to three twice but were unable to take the lead versus South Carolina.

The 2019 Independence Bowl might have been the worst postseason performance in Miami history. Miami was abysmal offensively with 227 total yards. Miami quarterbacks combined to go 15-34 for 153 yards and two interceptions. The Hurricanes finished the 2019 season with a 6-7 record.
