Champs Sports Bowl

The Bowl Game played at Camping World Stadium/The Citrus Bowl has changed its name multiple times. Miami played in the Champs Sports Bowl in 2009, the Russell Athletic Bowl in 2013 and 2016 and the Cheez-It Bowl in 2020 all played in Orlando. The Hurricanes are 1-3 in Bowl games played in Orlando.

Miami took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a Graig Cooper 16-yard TD run before Wisconsin scored 20 unanswered points. A Thearon Collier 14-yard pass from Jacory Harris in the fourth quarter cut the Wisconsin lead to 20-14 but it was too late as the Badgers earned their first of three bowl wins over the Hurricanes.

Russell Athletic Bowl

Miami lost 36-9 to Louisville in 2013 in the renamed Russell Athletic Bowl. After a safety against Louisville QB and former Miami commit Teddy Bridgewater to open the scoring, the Cardinals scored the next 36 points. Bridgewater was the MVP scorching Miami for 447 yards passing, three TDs. and 24 rushing.

Miami won its sole bowl game since 2006 with a 31-14 win over West Virginia in the 2016 Champs Sports Bowl. Brad Kaaya was the MVP throwing for 282 yards and four TDs in his last game for Miami. Four different receivers scored for Miami as the Hurricanes finished 9-4 and with five straight wins.

Cheez-It Bowl

The story of the 2020 Cheez-It Bowl for Miami was the torn ACL by Hurricanes’ QB D’Eriq King. After falling behind 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, Miami rallied to outscore Oklahoma State 34-16 over the final three quarters. Oklahoma State held on for the 37-34 win behind MVP, QB Spencer Sanders.
