Miami football history of legendary performances versus NC State

Miami football players have had some of the most legendary performances in program history in games versus North Carolina State. Most of those have come at quarterback. Miami leads the all-time series with North Carolina State 11-5-1. The Hurricanes are 4-1 in games played in Raleigh.

Miami QBs have had record-setting performances versus North Carolina State. Brock Berlin, D’Eriq King, Stephen Morris and Tyler Van Dyke are all Miami QBs who have thrived versus North Carolina State. Wide receiver Philip Dorsett also had a memorable performance for Miami versus North Carolina State.

In their first year in the ACC, Miami won 45-31 at North Carolina State to begin the 2004 season 6-0. Berlin completed 15 passes in 30 attempts for 265 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Berlin tied the single-game Miami record for TD passes in a single game at the time. Jarren Williams had six in a game 2019.

Stephen Morris set the Miami record with 566 yards passing on 26 of 49 and matched Berlin’s five TDs and one interception in a 44-37 win over North Carolina State in 2012. Philip Dorsett had seven receptions for 191 yards and two TDs and Rashawn Scott caught six passes for 180 yards and two TDs.

D’Eriq King completely took over for Miami in a 44-41 win over North Carolina State in 2020. King was 31-41 for 430 yards, five touchdowns, no interceptions and ran for 105 yards and a TD. Miami rallied from 10 points down in the second half. A 54-yard King to Mike Harley TD pass won the game with 2:43 remaining.

Van Dyke got his FBS win as a starting QB in 2021 versus North Carolina State. Van Dyke was 25-33 for 325 yards, four TDs and one interception in the 31-30 win over the Wolfpack. Miami rallied after losing the lead three times. A fourth-quarter Van Dyke to Charleston Rambo TD pass was the game-winner.

Morris set the Miami football single-game total offense record versus NC State in 2012. King’s 535 total yards is second all-time in Miami history. Berlin, King and Morris are in an eight way tie for most passing TDs for their performances versus NC State. Dorsett has the eighth best Miami single game receiving yardage versus NC St.
