Miami football 2023 class continues impact with Mark Fletcher ACC Frosh of the Week
Running back Mark Fletcher continues the strong play from the 2023 Miami football class by being named the ACC Freshman of the Week. Fletcher ran for 115 yards on 23 carries in the 20-6 Miami loss at North Carolina State on Saturday. Defensive lineman Rueben Bain was named ACC Freshman of the Week on October 23.
Bain was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week on October 23 and 30. Fletcher is third on the Miami football team with 58 carries and 295 rushing yards and tied for second with two touchdowns while contributing five receptions for 25 yards. Fletcher has had breakout performances in the last two weeks after returning from an injury.
Fletcher preceded his performance on Saturday versus North Carolina State with 11 carries for 47 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime versus Virginia on October 28. Fletcher carried the ball on all three Miami plays in overtime for 25 yards. An 11-yard Fletcher run finished the game in overtime versus Virginia.
Bain had eight tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble on October 21 in the Miami double-overtime win over Clemson to earn the ACC Defensive Lineman and Freshman of the Week. Bain followed that up with seven tackles, 2.5 TFLs, two sacks and a pass defended versus Virginia.
The performance by Fletcher on Saturday was in the first start of his career. Fletcher added three receptions for 17 yards versus North Carolina State. Other Miami players honored by the ACC in 2023 are Kamren Kinchens who was the Defensive Back of the Week and Andres Borregales as Specialist of the Week on October 30.
Bain, Fletcher and right tackle Francisco Mauigoa are competing to earn spots on the freshman All-America team. Fletcher will need to finish strong in the last three regular season games, plus Miami’s bowl game to earn freshmen All-America. Miami plays at Florida State on Saturday, hosts Louisville and is at Boston College.
