During his weekly press conference on Monday, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal stated that Tyler Van Dyke will start at quarterback on Saturday versus Louisville. Van Dyke regains the starting QB position after Emory Williams suffered a compound arm fracture during Saturday’s loss to Florida State.

Williams was 8-23 for 175 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and was only sacked twice in the 27-20 Miami loss at Florida State on Saturday. Tyler Van Dyke relieved Williams on the last drive and completed two passes in seven attempts for 29 yards with no TDs and one interception.

The interception came on fourth and 10 when Van Dyke had to attempt to get Miami the first down. Van Dyke had completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,086 yards, 16 TDs and 12 interceptions with a 145.75 passer rating this season. Williams has completed 62.0 percent for 470 yards, three TDs and one interception.

Williams has a 128.70 passer rating. Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson both discussed the potential of backup Jacurri Brown playing in the last two regular season games against Louisville and Boston College. Brown has not played at all this season and has secured a redshirt in 2023.

Players can play up to four games each season and maintain their redshirt. With two regular season games plus a bowl, Brown can play in all three games and still redshirt. Louisville has been susceptible this season to QBs who can run. Brown could help Miami in situational packages.

Don’t expect Cristobal or Dawson to discuss if or how much Brown will play versus Louisville on Saturday. Cristobal stated during his weekly appearance on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM and with reporters later in the day that Williams is expected to be ready for spring practice. Williams reportedly had surgery on Monday.
