Miami football: QBs have had success running versus Louisville
The Miami football team has an opportunity to use Jacurri Brown in certain situations on Saturday versus a Louisville defense that has struggled to contain running quarterbacks in 2023. Brown has not played in 2023 after starting two games in 2022. Mario Cristobal has announced Tyler Van Dyke is starting versus Louisville.
Louisville has allowed 318 rushing yards on 102 carries to QBs this season. That includes yardage lost on sacks. In a 31-24 win over Virginia last week, Louisville allowed 89 yards rushing on 14 carries to Virginia QB Anthony Colandrea. Brown had 53 carries for 221 yards rushing during the 2022 season.
Brown had 13 carries for 64 yards against Florida State and 19 attempts for 87 yards against Clemson in 2022. With only three games remaining in the 2023 season, the redshirt for Brown is secured. There has been a lot of speculation about if Brown will receive any snaps in the final three games this season.
Van Dyke missed the Virginia game three weeks ago with a leg injury. On the season Van Dyke has 18 carries for 10 yards. Van Dyke showed the ability to run with a 10-yard touchdown versus Bethune-Cookman and two carries for 39 yards versus Temple. Both of those games came before Van Dyke injured his leg at North Carolina.

Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson will have to be creative against a stout Louisville defense. Louisville leads the ACC allowing 17.1 points per game. The Cardinals are second in run defense allowing 91.90 yards per game. The Miami football team leads the ACC allowing 86.0 rushing yards per game.
Louisville has been more susceptible against the pass ranking sixth in the ACC allowing 208.2 yards per game. If Brown doesn’t play, there is also the possibility that the Miami football team could use the Wildcat. If Dawson chooses to use the Wildcat expect wide receiver Brashard Smith to take the snaps at QB.
Smith has seven carries for 98 yards this season. That includes an 80-yard run versus Clemson. Tyler Harrell is the only other Miami WR with a carry this season. Harrell had one carry for seven yards versus Clemson. Miami is eighth in the ACC averaging 172.00 rushing YPG. QB runs have not been a part of the 2023 Miami offense.
