Miami football falls short losing to Louisville
Tyler Van Dyke threw incomplete on fourth and goal from the three-yard line with 1:30 left on the penultimate drive and Xavier Restrepo was tacked on the five-yard line on a hail mary on the final possession in a 38-31 loss by the Miami football team to Louisville on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
Louisville rallied in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Miami football team 15-3 in the final 15 minutes. Miami defensive backs Te’Cory Couch and Jaden Davis collied and Kevin Coleman went untouched 58 yards for the game-winning Louisville touchdown with 4:17 remaining. Mistakes hurt Miami late in the game.
On the penultimate drive, Miami was forced to take a timeout on fourth down. That cost the Hurricanes 46 seconds on the final Louisville drive. Jacolby George was called for a personal foul after Van Dyke’s pass was incomplete to him on fourth down. That took Louisville from their three-yard line to the 18.
After the Louisville punt, Brashard Smith was called for a personal foul that gave Miami possession on its own 25 instead of the 40. Van Dyke completed passes to Colbie Young for 10 yards and Xavier Restrepo for 15 to the 50 to set up the hail mary. Restrepo caught the tip from Young but was five yards short.
Restrepo had a huge bounce-back performance after no receptions last week at Florida State. Van Dyke completed eight passes to Restrepo for 193 yards and a touchdown. Mark Fletcher had the best game of his Miami career with 17 carries for 126 yards, the first two TD game of his career and one reception for 25 yards.
Miami had the second worst performance of the season allowing 470 yards and 38 points to Louisville. The Cardinals had 158 yards in the fourth quarter. Miami had 172 yards in the fourth quarter, but only three points. Miami travels to Boston College on Friday with the opportunity to clinch a winning season.
