Miami Hurricanes News: Hoops moves up polls, BC Prep
The Miami Hurricanes basketball team moved up two spots in the AP Top 25 to 10th and remained 11th in the USA Today Coaches Poll following three wins last week. Mario Cristobal, Lance Guidry and Shannon Dawson met with the media for the final time during the regular season on Monday.
By moving up to 10th in the AP Top 25, the Miami Hurricanes basketball team earned its first Top 10 ranking since they were sixth in the December 18, 2017 poll. Miami has been ranked in 17 straight AP polls, tying the school record set during the 2015-16 season. Miami beat FIU, Georgia and Kansas State last week.
David Lake of Inside the U wrote, “Defensive Coordinator Lance Guidry addresses coaching carousel rumors.” Guidry has been linked to his home state program LSU and USC but denied the rumors. Speaking to reporters, Guidry stated that his agent had not told him if they are any suitors for him.
Jamie Shaw of On3 ranked Wooga Poplar second among “The Top NBA Draft Prospects in the ACC 1.0.” Shaw also includes Miami freshman Kyshawn George as a “Player to Watch After Year Two” and Norchad Omier and Matthew Cleveland under “Other Players to Watch.” Nijel Pack was conspicuously left off the list.
Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald discussed that “Miami’s Cristobal ‘proactive’ with Canes considering leaving for draft” Cristobal stated that they will gather information relevant to a player’s draft status and share it with the the family so that the best decision can be made to stay or enter the draft.
Xavier Restrepo was named the ACC Receiver of the Week after recording a career-high 193 yards on eight receptions with one touchdown. Restrepo leads Miami with 68 receptions and 876 yards this season. Restrepo is now third all-time in a season for receptions and ninth in receiving yards.
