As projected, entering the season Kamren Kinchens and James Williams have been one of the best safety tandems in the country. Expect Kinchens and Williams to both enter the 2024 NFL Draft. Kinchens and Williams are guaranteed to be drafted if they leave after the 2023 season, as expected.

Kinchens is projected as the 27th overall prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft by the NFL Mockdraft database. With an interception versus Louisville this season, Kinchens moved up to a tie for eighth in Miami history with 11 career interceptions. Kinchens also has 160 career tackles, five tackles for loss and 26 passes defended.

The NFL Mock Draft Database projects Williams as the 40th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. At 6’5 and 215 pounds, Williams is the prototype hybrid defensive player NFL teams are looking for. In his three seasons, Williams has 158 tackles, two TFLs, two forced fumbles, 16 passes defended and four interceptions.

The likely departures of Kinchens and Williams are significant for Miami. Miami does not have a lot of depth at safety on the current roster. Expect Cristobal and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae to try to bring in two safeties through the transfer portal, who will start in 2024.
