Daniel Stubbs is the most prolific pass rusher in the history of the Miami football program. Stubbs still holds Miami records with 39.5 career sacks and 17 sacks during the 1986 season. In addition to being a sack master Stubbs also had 25 TFLs (counted separately from sacks) and 267 tackles.
Following his great 1987 season Stubbs earned consensus first-team All-American and was a finalist for the Lombardi and Outland Trophies. In the three seasons Stubbs played for Miami the Hurricanes allowed 13.3 PPG finishing 18th nationally, 11.3 which was fourth, and 9.2 which was second in a national championship season.
Stubbs was originally an outside linebacker when he enrolled at Miami and moved to DE as a sophomore when he recorded 12 sacks. With opponents game planning around Stubbs, he had 75 tackles and 9.5 sacks as a senior in 1987. Hawkins and Stubbs formed elite bookends at DE.
The San Francisco 49ers selected Stubbs 33rd overall in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft. Stubbs won Superbowls with the 49ers in 1988 and 1989. Stubbs reunited with Johnson with the Dallas Cowboys and also played with Cincinnati and Philadelphia and finished his career with the Dolphins.
