Brown was the first Miami wide receiver to record 1,000 yards in a season with 59 receptions for 1,114 yards in 1984. Brown held the records for the Miami football team in career, single game and second receiving yards and career when he left following the 1984 season. He still holds the single-game record.

Brown had 10 receptions for 220 yards in the 1984 game versus Boston College. Under offensive coordinator Gary Stevens, Brown finished the 1984 season 10th nationally in receptions, third in receiving yards and fourth in receiving TDs. Miami finished 18th nationally averaging 18.1 points per game.

After his outstanding 1984 season, Brown was named a consensus All-American. . Brown had seven 100-yard receiving games in his career which was an exceptional number during the 1980s. Brown set the standard for future Miami WRs including Michael Irvin, Brian Blades and Brett Perriman who were right after Brown.

Brown finished his Miami career with 89 receptions for 1,754 yards and 14 touchdowns. Brown was a consensus All-American in 1984. Following his stellar Miami football career, Brown was the 13th pick in the first round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals and played in Superbowl XXII.
