The transfer portal season has started for the Miami football program with multiple reports stating that defensive end Jahfari Harvey is looking for a new school. Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U was the first to report that Harvey will enter the transfer portal. Harvey lost snaps this season to elite freshman Rueben Bain.

Harvey originally signed with Miami football in 2019 as a four-star prospect who was the 158th-ranked player nationally, the 10th weakside DE and the 18th recruit in Florida. In five seasons with Miami, Harvey had 99 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, one forced fumble, four passes defended and an interception.

Under Mario Cristobal, Miami has made the line of scrimmage a priority. Harvey redshirted as a true freshman in 2019 and gained an extra year of eligibility from Covid in 2020. Entering his sixth season, Harvey has one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer. Harvey started 18 games in the last four years.

Harvey has 23 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, one sack and one pass breakup this season with five starts. Per Urrutia, Harvey played 11 snaps with season highs of an 85.3 defensive grade and 73.8 run grade in the last game of the regular season versus Boston College on Friday. Harvey has been passed in the rotation by Bain and others.

All of the other Miami edge rushers have eligibility remaining. Miami also has commitments from four-star 2024 edge rushers Marquise Lightfoot, Booker Pickett Jr. and Elias Rudolph in the 2024 class. In addition to Bain, Miami also signed four-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne in the 2023 class.

Cyrus Moss who was a 2022 signee has only received snaps in five games over two seasons. Harvey might not be the last Miami defensive lineman to enter the transfer portal. Fourth-year junior Chantz Williams has had a significant decrease in his playing time compared to the 2022 season.

Williams played in four games with two tackles in 2022. Miami is expected to return Nyjalik Kelly and Akheem Mesidor at edge rusher. Kelly and Mesidor began the season as the starting Miami DEs but suffered season-ending injuries. Edge rusher has become one of the deepest positions on the Miami football roster.
