Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports reported the Miami football program hosted Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard on Monday and former Washington State signal caller Cameron Ward will visit the Hurricanes on Tuesday. On3 reported that Ward is still considering visiting Florida State or entering the 2024 NFL Draft.

The visit with the Miami football program will be the first by Ward since entering the transfer portal. In addition to Florida State, other programs that Ward is considering visiting are reportedly Auburn, Nebraska, Oregon, USC, Washington and Wisconsin. Ward is reportedly the top transfer QB Miami is pursuing.

Miami became a major player in the search for a transfer portal quarterback after three-year starter Tyler Van Dyke announced his intention to leave the Hurricanes following the final regular season game against Boston College on November 24. The transfer portal opened on December 4.

Ward completed 65.5 percent of his pass attempts for 6,968 yards, 48 TDs and 16 interceptions with 202 rushing yards and 13 scores in two seasons at Washington State. Ward transferred to Washington State from FCS Incarnate Word in 2022. Ward is somewhere between a pro-style passer and a dual-threat QB.

Ward completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 3,736 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions with 144 yards rushing and another eight scores in 2023. Miami middle linebacker Francisco Mauigoa was a teammate of Ward’s during the 2022 season at Washington State. Ward was Pac-12 Honorable Mention in 2022 and ’23.

Howard is the 15th overall transfer and fourth QB in the 247 Sports portal rankings. In 2022 Howard completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,643 yards, 24 TDs and 10 interceptions while running for 351 yards and nine scores. Howard is the most proven true dual-threat transfer QB.

Adding either Howard or Ward to a top-five recruiting class would be significant for the Miami football program entering the third season under Mario Cristobal. Miami currently has the sixth-ranked 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Three-star prospect Judd Anderson is the sole QB in the 2024 Miami class.
