4-safety Hylton Stubbs flips from Miami with 2 more projected by Early NSD
Four-star safety Hylton Stubbs flipped from Miami to Florida on Monday afternoon and four-star linebacker Gavin Nix and three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt are also projected to flip from their commitments to the 2025 Miami class when Early National Signing Day commences on Wednesday and runs through Friday.
Miami currently has 22 commitments in their 2025 class which is 13th nationally by the 247Sports composite rankings. Stubbs was the third highest ranked 2025 Miami commit behind edge rusher Hayden Lowe and interior offensive lineman Seuseu Alofaituli. Miami has 15 four-star commits and seven three-stars in the 2025 class.
Stubbs is the 57th ranked prospect fifth safety and eighth player in Florida in the 2025 class. Miami made the secondary a priority in the 2025 class. Miami also has commitments from four-star CBs Jaborree Antoine, Chris Ewald and Amari Wallace and safety Bryce Fitzgerald in the 2025 class.
Stubbs was previously committed to USC before flipping to Miami on July 4. The flip by Stubbs could open up a position on the 2025 Miami roster to sign a freshman or add a transfer in the secondary. Expect Miami to be active in the transfer portal adding defensive backs.
Nix is the 239th prospect, 26th LB and 35th player in Florida out of IMG Academy in the 2025 class. Three-star prospect Ezekiel Marcellin is the only other LB committed to Miami in the 2025 class. Miami loses starting middle LB Francis Mauigoa after the 2024 season.
Merritt is the 515th ranked prospect, 44th CB and 22nd prospect in Alabama out of Birmingham Parker. On3 projects Tennessee with the best chance to sign Merritt at 36.7 percent with Arkansas at 25.8 percent and Alabama at 11.3 percent. Miami now has a less than one percent chance to retain Merritt in their class per On3.
