Miami commit Eli Woodard moves into Rivals top 100
Woodard committed to the Hurricanes on June 30, choosing Miami over Cal and UCLA after backing off his USC commitment in May. Woodard took official visits to Miami, Cal and UCLA before making his decision.
Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard played a central role in the recruitment, and Woodard's commitment was another example of the Hurricanes extending their reach beyond South Florida. Miami entered California and landed a former USC commit who had plenty of reasons to stay out West.
Woodard caught 51 passes for 1,070 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior, averaging 21 yards per catch. He also contributed on defense with seven pass breakups and an interception.
Miami commit Jayvon Dawson also flew up the rankings
The updated Rivals300 also gave Miami another major defensive boost. Jayvon Dawson, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound edge rusher from Santaluces Community High School in Lake Worth, entered the Rivals300 at No. 102 overall. Rivals now ranks Dawson as the No. 11 edge rusher and No. 10 player in Florida.
Dawson committed to Miami in May after choosing the Hurricanes over North Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia and other Power Four offers. He finished his junior season with 68 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, eight sacks and a forced fumble.
Overall, Monday was a great day for the Miami recruiting machine. Two players got a major bump, and Miami currently sits No. 4 in the nation in the Rivals recruiting rankings.
