Standing at 6-foot-6, Maddox originally signed a National Letter of Intent in November with Stephen F. Austin before reopening his recruitment in February. Despite drawing high-major interest from schools such as Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and West Virginia, Maddox cited Miami’s straightforward approach and Lucas’s focus on “getting the job done” as key factors in his choice (Jamie Shaw of On3).
"“The reason why I chose Miami was that the coaches were very consistent with recruiting me, and they said I would be a great addition to the team. What led me to trust Jai Lucas was that he’s very straightforward and a man to get the job done. He’s a winner.”"Treyvon Maddox
As a senior at Orlando (FL) Oak Ridge High, Maddox averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He will join a revitalized Miami team that includes an entirely new roster from last season. There are key transfer additions like Marcus Allen (Missouri), Tre Donaldson (Michigan), as well as fellow recruits coming in like Shelton Henderson. The Canes are positioned as a potential bubble team for the NCAA Tournament and a lot of people are starting to take notice of the overhaul. The complete roster goes as follows:
- PG: Tre Donaldson
- SG: Tru Washington
- SF: Shelton Henderson
- PF: Malik Reneau
- C: Ernest Udeh Jr.
- Dante Allen
- Marcus Allen
- Tomotej Malovec
- Jordyn Kee
- Salih Altuntas
- John Laboy II
- Treyvon Maddox
The starting lineup is just a projection and Lucas did say in his introductory press conference that the team would need 13 new players so there still might be one more to come into the fold.
