Syracuse four-star safety commit Tedarius Hughes is expected to visit Miami this weekend as the Hurricanes host the Orange in a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium, according to Rivals. The report, from Rivals' Marcus Benjamin, comes days after Hughes announced a flip from Florida State to Syracuse.

Hughes, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound defender from Miami Northwestern, is one of the more coveted defensive backs in the 2026 cycle. The Rivals/On3 Industry metric places him No. 362 overall, No. 32 among safeties and No. 51 in Florida. He is listed on 247Sports as a four-star prospect with strong production at South Dade before transferring to Miami Northwestern ahead of his senior year.

The planned trip would be a return to campus for Hughes, who previously took in a Miami game day earlier this season while still committed to Florida State. In September, he told Rivals he was intrigued by how the Hurricanes deployed DB's in third-down packages.

Hughe' commitment switch on Tuesday gave Syracuse a splash on the recruiting trail and strengthened the Orange's 2026 class, which already includes fellow Miami Northwestern star Calvin Russell. Hughes had been committed to Florida State since July 4, 2024 before reopening and choosing Syracuse this week.

From Miami's perspective, hosting Hughes the same weekend Syracuse is in town raises the stakes. For Cuse fans, it's probably a concern that they could end up losing Hughes if the game gets away from them against the Hurricanes. With Russell as his high school teammate, there is a sense of security that comes with Hughes' commitment. Now, the potential of losing both could be on the table if Miami wipes the floor with Syracuse.

The Hurricanes have leaned into in-season visits under Mario Cristobal, especially for South Florida prospects who can make quick trips to Hard Rock. The recent news of his visit will certainly be something to watch moving forward.
