The college football recruiting season is heating up, and Miami head coach Mario Cristobal is in need of a few wins. After some early recruiting wins in the cycle, Miami has been hit with a few losses as of late, but it can get back on track if a new recruit setting his commitment date.

Miami fans will want to be alert on May 15 as five-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho has set his commitment date, where he will choose between the Hurricanes, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Michigan, and Georgia.

This is a recruit that Cristobal won't want to let get away, as the 6-foot-4, 286-pound defensive lineman is ranked in the top 10 of the Rivals300 rankings. With official visit seasons soon upon college football, it will be crucial for Miami to land this commitment, in case Folorunsho decides to take any other visits outside of his committed school.

Cristobal already has eight commits in his 2027 recruiting class, giving the Hurricanes the No. 17 class in the nation. It would also mark the first five-star recruit for Cristobal in this class. Miami already lost the battle for four-star safety Zayden Gamble a few weeks ago when he picked the Irish instead of the Hurricanes.

Miami is not going to want to lose another recruit to Notre Dame, especially when the rivalry between the two has heated up over the last year. Folorunsho is also looking at the Irish as a potential landing spot, but Cristobal hopefully has a few tricks up his sleeve to land the top-ranked defensive lineman.

Cristobal has had some success with defensive linemen as of late, with Ruben Bain Jr. being in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, showing incoming recruits that Miami can be a great pipeline to the NFL.
