Defensive tackle Simeon Barrow is sixth nationally producing interior pressure and edge rusher Tyler Baron is fourth overall in pressures entering week 11. The additions of Baron and Barrow as transfers to the 2024 roster have helped Miami rank 17th nationally with 61 tackles for loss and 12th with 27 sacks.
Baron is fourth nationally with 36 pressures and has 30 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 2024. Baron had a season-high six tackles versus Duke last week. With 2023 ACC Rookie Defensive Player of the Year Rueben Bain out early in the season, Baron had 10 tackles, 7.0 TFLs and 4.5 sacks in the first three 2024 games.
Barrow has produced 28 tackles, 8.0 TFLs, 5.5 sacks, 1.0 forced fumble and 1.0 pass defended. Barrow has been dominant since the beginning of October. In the last four games, Barrow has 14 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 3.0 sacks and a forced fumble. Barrow has solidified the interior of the Miami defense.
Baron is one of three ACC players in the top four in quarterback pressures. Former Miami DL Elijah Roberts is second nationally for SMU with 44 pressures, Ashton Gillotte of Louisville is third with 37 pressures and Baron is fourth. Miami held Gillotte to two tackles and no TFLs in a 52-37 win on October 19.
Virginia Tech DL Aeneas Peebles is the only ACC player ahead of Barrow with 26 interior pressures. Miami held Peebles to two tackles, one TFL and one sack. The combination of Bain, Baron, Barrow and Mesidor gives Miami one of the best DLs nationally, particularly producing pressure.
Bain would be among the leaders nationally if he didn't miss four games in September. Bain has 10 tackles, 4.0 TFLs and 2.5 sacks in five games. In 2023 Bain led all true freshmen nationally with 44 QB pressures. That was 10 more pressures than any other freshmen nationally. Having a strong pass rush will be critical for Miami down the stretch.
