Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt, who began his career at Michigan State, is not likely to return to Tempe in 2026, per Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos of On3. Leavitt transferred to Arizona State after the 2023 season with Michigan State and led the Sun Devils to the 2024 Big XII title and a College Football Playoff berth. Leavitt played in only seven games in 2025 after being ruled out for the season with a foot injury that will require surgery and ended his year. As a redshirt sophomore, Leavitt has the option of entering the 2026 NFL Draft. It would probably be in Leavitt's best interest to return to college in 2026 to show scouts he is healthy.

In 24 games over three college seasons with Michigan State and Arizona State, Leavitt has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 4,652 yards, 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also has 810 career rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Sam Leavitt is eyeing the transfer portal and that could be great for Miami football

Miami has added a transfer QB in each of the past two seasons. Cam Ward became a 2024 Heisman Trophy finalist and the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after one record-setting season with Miami. Carson Beck has had an inconsistent but head-turning 2025 season for Miami.

Leavitt was the No. 311 prospect, No. 21 QB and top player in Oregon out of West Linn in the 2024 247Sports composite rankings. Redshirt sophomore Emory Williams, redshirt freshman Judd Anderson and true freshman Luke Nickel are QBs on the 2025 Miami roster as QBs with eligibility beyond this season.

Miami has a commitment from four-star QB Dereon Coleman in the 2026 class. Miami entering the transfer portal to sign a QB for the third consecutive year will depend on how confident head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson are in their returning signal-callers in 2026.
