With a 21-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the Pop-Tarts Bowl, Miami kicker Andres Borregales became the all-time leading scorer in program history passing Michael Badgley. Borregales now has 405 points. Borregales had 11 points in the Pop-Tarts Bowl versus Iowa State with five extra points and two field goals.
With 77 career field goals, Badgley still holds the title of Miami's all-time leader. Borreagales finished his Miami career with 74 field goals. After playing his final season with Miami in 2017, Badgley spent parts of six seasons in the NFL from 2018 through 2023. Badgley tore his hamstring in July and is out for the entire 2024 season.
Borregales succeeded his brother Jose in what has become a Miami-kicking dynasty over the past five seasons. Jose became the second Miami kicker named a consensus All-American in 2020 after Carlos Huerta in 1991. Andres Borregales was named first-team All-ACC in 2023 and 2024.
The 11 points by Borregales on Saturday gives him 116 this season, which leads all kickers in the ACC. With the five extra points, Borregales now has 62 this season allowing him to pass Clemson kicker Nolan Hauser. Borregales finished tied for third with four other ACC kickers in 2024 with 18 field goals.
With his career complete, Borregales will look forward to Pro Day for Miami and the potential of being drafted. If Borregales is not taken in the NFL Draft expect him to be signed as an undrafted free agent and participate in mini-camps and training camp with an NFL team this spring and summer.
Miami looks ahead at kicker with redshirt freshman Abram Murray who backed up Borregales this season. Murray made his one field goal attempt and all four points after touchdowns in 2024. Miami added Florida Atlantic kicker Carter Davis as a transfer to compete with Murray in 2025.
