Miami fans heading to Notre Dame just got a much easier travel option. American Airlines has created a special nonstop flight from Miami to South Bend for the Hurricanes' road game against the Irish, with the outbound trip scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, and the return flight set for Sunday, Nov. 8.

With anticipation for the game at a recent high, the 12 first-class seats sold out within an hour. So, that gives you a pretty good idea of how much interest there already is in this trip.

Miami faces Notre Dame on Nov. 7

The Miami-Notre Dame game itself is on the schedule for Saturday, Nov. 7, in South Bend, with kickoff time still to be announced. It will mark the Hurricanes' first trip back to Notre Dame Stadium in 10 years.

The Irish beat Miami 30-27 the last time the Hurricanes played in South Bend in 2016, and Notre Dame leads the all-time series 17-8-1 (one ND win vacated). This is also the first time since 1976 that Miami travels to Notre Dame in the month of November.

Nonstop service on this route is not normally easy to find, so this special American Airlines option is a real convenience play for Hurricanes fans who want to make the trip without turning it into a travel headache.

The Miami-Notre Dame matchup has carried weight in college football since the 1980s, but now it seems to be going through a resurgence with both teams nationally relevant again. Last year the Canes defeated the Irish 27-24 in the opening game of the season. That win ended up making the difference as Miami just squeaked into the CFP before making a run all the way to the national championship game.

The November matchup now sets the stage for Notre Dame to get revenge, and for Miami to prove that they are truly here to stay as one of the best programs in the country.
