AP Top 25 prediction: Miami should move into the top 3 without having to play a game

The Miami Hurricanes will end up in the top 3 and didn't even have to get off their couches.

A rash of upsets around the top 25, including a shocking result in the Red River Rivalry, shook up the top 5 and then losses by LSU, Florida and Pitt forced movement in the rest of the poll. Georgia beat Alabama in a game that should put the Bulldogs at No. 1 and not punish Alabama too much, although I'm convinced that the Crimson Tide could finish 6-6 and get in the playoffs.

Here is how I believe the rest of the top 25 will shake out:

The top 5 teams in the country

1. Georgia Bulldogs, 20-17 win over Oklahoma
2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 58-7 win over Stanford
3. Miami Hurricanes did not play
4. Ohio State Buckeyes, 45-16 win over Maryland
5. Indiana Hoosiers, 20-17 win over Nebraska

This is a pretty good group. I'd say all five of these teams are locks to make the CFP 12-team bracket. Notre Dame probably tried to send a little message by blowing out Stanford even worse than Miami did, but a 39-point win or a 51-point win … It doesn't mean much at all.

Indiana and Georgia probably have the toughest road remaining amongst this group, but both teams have a ton of credibility with the committee and would be able to withstand a loss or two as long as they are competitive games.

The best of the rest

6. Texas Longhorns, 27-24 loss to Oklahoma
7. BYU Cougars, 24-10 win over Iowa State
8. Ole Miss Rebels, 52-17 win over Vanderbilt
9. Alabama Crimson Tide, 20-17 loss to Georgia
10. Texas Tech Red Raiders did not play
11. Utah Utes, 41-24 win over Kansas
12. Missouri Tigers, 27-6 win over Texas A&M
13. UCLA Bruins, 17-15 win over Oregon
14. Tennessee Volunteers, 24-17 win over Arkansas
15. USC Trojans, 31-23 win over Penn State

16. Iowa Hawkeyes, 41-24 win over Washington
17. Oklahoma State Cowboys, 42-28 win over UCF
18. Mississippi State Bulldogs did not play
19. Kentucky Wildcats, 35-34 win over LSU
20. LSU Tigers, 35-34 loss to Kentucky
21. Houston Cougars, 35-16 win over Kansas State
22. Oregon Ducks, 17-15 loss to UCLA
23. Boise State Broncos, 38-31 win over Fresno State
24. SMU Mustangs did not play
25. Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 38-14 win over NC State

There's no justification to keep Texas in the top 5, but the Longhorns won't drop too far outside of that. However, they do have to start stringing together some good games. The loss to Oklahoma was a huge shock, especially given how awful the Sooners are on offense.

Both Oregon and LSU should be well outside the CFP bubble and will need to get some notable wins to get back in the mix. Oregon has a road game with Ohio State in November and LSU has upcoming games against Texas and Alabama. Failing to make the CFP is not an option for Lane Kiffin.

Kentucky and Wake Forest jump in while Florida and Pitt jump out. The ACC didn't do itself any favors with Pitt and Duke losing, but the Demon Deacons have strung together some good games to pick up some of the slack.
