Bill Belichick is at North Carolina is good for Miami
I love that Bill Belichick is at UNC. As a Miami Hurricanes fan, I love that Bill Belichick is at North Carolina because they own Miami football. As a Dolphins fan, Bill Belichick has an executive parking space at Hard Rock Stadium because of how much he beat Miami over 24 years.
Belichick is the "star power" that the ACC needs to stay relevant in college football. Deion Sanders has shown that "star power" counts in college football. He will "learn the college game" from the staff he will hire.
"Star Power" matters
Canes Warning's partner site Glory Colorado wrote about Deion Sanders pursuing Kaidon Salter, the number one transfer portal QB from Liberty. Coach Prime has the star power advantage over other coaches. Belichick will also have that star power and be successful in college.
Belichick can walk into a house, put down all the rings and not say a word. North Carolina is a pretty good football program. Alicia DeArtola of the main FanSided site wrote "Bill Belichick's hire caused a transfer portal reversal for North Carolina."
North Carolina has owned the Hurricanes
Sam Howell converting on fourth and 17 to beat Miami in 2019 and a 62-26 North Carolina win hung at Hard Rock Stadium to prevent the Hurricanes from going to Orange Bowl are two games recent game the Tar Heels won. North Carolina used to have basketball and Miami had football.
It is frustrating that Miami isn't leading the all-time head-to-head matchup against UNC. North Carolina is 7-3 in their last 10 games against the Hurricanes. It isn't about Miami's football history. It is disappointing to be 3-7 against anyone in the last 10 games. It is about pride.
North Carolina has also won the last five games against Miami. With Belichick at North Carolina, Miami fans will care more about the rivalry with the Tar Heels.
The Dolphins didn't beat up Belichick enough
The Dolphins were 6-2 versus New England in Belichick's last four years, but 15-25 before that. but not enough. The Patriots beating Miami late in the season didn't spoil anything for the Dolphins. It is a "Believe it Or Not" statistic that Brady and Belichick had a below .500 record at Miami. All 24 years Belichick was the head coach, Dolphins fans would say, "This is the year we beat him."
Every time, the Dolphins would be frustrated and Belichick would sigh, yawn and say, "Onto Cincinnati." Now, as the Head coach of UNC, there is another chance. Bill Belichick will find it difficult to transition to the college ranks, at first. This is now the moment to figuratively "dogpile" on him and beat him. Miami doesn't play UNC until 2026.
After the first season, maybe in less time, his players will be ready to play.
