Bleacher Report projected Mensah to the Miami Dolphins with the No. 1 overall pick in its way-too-early 2027 NFL mock draft, putting the Duke transfer ahead of Texas quarterback Arch Manning, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore and South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
The mock draft order was built using reverse FanDuel Super Bowl odds, with Bleacher Report making adjustments for formatting.
Darian Mensah goes No. 1 over Arch Manning
Manning will be the most famous quarterback in the class, and he went No. 2 to the Arizona Cardinals in the same mock. Moore went No. 3 to the New York Jets. Sellers, one of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in college football, went No. 4 to the Cleveland Browns.
"Mensah plays from the pocket with poise under pressure, accuracy and good ball placement at all three levels. He is a mobile quarterback but prefers to sit in the pocket and dissect defenses. Duke was one of the least talented teams among Power 4 programs, yet Mensah elevated the program with his play."Brent Sobleski
Current QB situation for the Miami Dolphins
Miami signed Malik Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million contract in March after moving on from Tua Tagovailoa, with $45 million fully guaranteed. Willis gives the Dolphins a bridge option, but the contract structure does not eliminate the possibility of a quarterback reset if the season goes poorly.
Behind Willis, the Dolphins have Quinn Ewers. Miami selected Ewers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he got some action as a rookie, appearing in four games with three starts. He completed 55 of 83 passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
It would be great for South Florida football fans to see something like this happen. The leader of the Miami Hurricanes then becoming the franchise QB for the Dolphins would be an interesting storyline to watch unfold.
