For as great as Carson Beck can be at times playing quarterback, he is still living on past reputation from his sensational 2023 season with the Georgia Bulldogs. Beck entered last year as the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and arguably the Heisman Trophy favorite. Not only did he not accomplish any of those things but he suffered a season-ending injury, and then transferred to Miami.
So far this season, Beck has done enough to have Miami back in the playoff mix, but continues to be a turnover machine. This comes down to him not throwing the most catchable of footballs, as well as having increasingly questionable decision-making. At this juncture, Beck is what he is. You can trust him to win some big games, but not all of them. Miami has decided to go all-in with him for this year.
In fact, in recent weeks, Beck's overall college career is no longer the most impressive in the sport.

College football analyst Jason DeLoach shared out his most recent data of the "Top 30 FBS QBs Ratings Heading Into Week 10". DeLoach made it a point to say Beck is no longer at the top of his career leader board. His combined rating of 3.47 is now behind Jayden Maiava at USC (3.66) and Haynes King at Georgia Tech (3.54). Beck has actually docked his career ranking by 0.36 this year.
The formula is career number for 2025 QB over QB rating equals points added to team power rating.
Carson Beck has hurt his college football legacy while playing for Miami
Per DeLoach's data, Beck entered the 2025 college football season with 3.83 points added to his team's power rating. By going in the negative direction, it has allowed the likes of Maiava and King to overtake him. Of the Top 30 FBS quarterbacks, Beck is one of only six to actually be in the negative this season, joining Sam Leavitt, Cade Klubnik, Garrett Nussmeier, Jalon Daniels and John Mateer...
On the other side of the coin, nobody has added more power to his team's power rating with his play this year than Beck's former teammate and current Georgia starter Gunner Stockton. He has added 3.10 to his ledger, joining the paltry 0.01 he had from a season ago filling in for Beck down the stretch. This allotment of data is not everything, but it does try to account for replacement value in some way.
The frustrating part about this for Beck is he was the catalyst for a few of the Hurricanes' wins earlier in the season. He outplayed C.J. Carr in the Week 1 opener vs. Notre Dame. Beck was outstanding in beating the arch rival Florida State Seminoles like a drum to stay perfect. Unfortunately, all people can really remember is the Friday night disaster vs. Louisville where he threw four bad picks at home...
Beck has enough of a runway to turn this negative trend around, but he must focus on being present.
